Training on defamation for TV journalists

Peter Chen/The Post-Standard, 2003Media Diversity Institute (UK) together with Yeni Nesil Journalists' Union organise a 10-day training for TV journalists. Training will enhance journalists' skills regarding the issues of freedom of expression and defamation and will be between 15 and 24 September in Baku, Azerbaijan.

During the study tour, journalists will explore elections reporting techniques, meet with Swedish politicians and journalists.

The first live Internet TV programme in the South Caucasus has started in Azerbaijan.

The programme named "Məncə" ("Methinks") is organized by the Azerbaijan Media Centre and supported by the Open Society Institute - Assistance Foundation.
 

European public broadcasters call for media freedom

Baku, 2 July 2010 – European public service broadcasters meeting in Azerbaijan have called on all governments to respect freedom of expression and freedom of the media. “The right to freedom of expression and information takes precedence over political or economic interests, and States have a duty to ensure and protect this fundamental cornerstone of democracy,” they said in a declaration adopted at a General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union.
