The Azerbaijan Media Center is established by International Media Support (IMS), an international non-governmental organization working to support media in a 25 countries worldwide.

IMS was established in 2001 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Today, IMS activities cover three thematic areas of engagement. In conflict-affected areas, IMS helps local media areas to remain operative and professional. IMS helps to foster openness and diversity in countries in transition. Finally, in the Arab world and Iran, IMS focuses on media and dialogue.
MS firmly believes that it must undertake its work in a cooperative and collaborative manner. On this there can be no compromise. As such, partnerships and coordination are central to the work of IMS.

Funding for the work of IMS comes from the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as a number of other organizations and foundations. The project in Azerbaijan is supported by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

IMS is governed by an international board. Managing editor at Danish Broadcast Corporation (DR) Jens Linde is the chairman of the board. Jesper Højberg is the executive director of IMS.
